St. John's wort is a cure for a thousand ailments
Prof. Dr. Aysun Bay Karabulut, a faculty member at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Faculty of Medicine, has explained the health benefits of St. John's wort, a plant frequently encountered worldwide that is known for its antidepressant effects.

Stating that St. John's wort is a flowering plant species with approximately 700 known varieties and is found throughout the world except in extremely cold or dry regions, Karabulut said, “Although most of the genera are mostly tropical, Hypericum and Triadenum are found in temperate regions. Molecular data support that Hypericaceae is monophyletic.”
Karabulut, noting that St. John's wort has small transparent circles that resemble the sun and contain a dark red medicinal oil, stated, “The flowers are usually yellow, sometimes with four or five petals dotted with black spots; there are many stamens on long filaments; three to five styles, usually fused at the base. The fruit is a dehiscent capsule that releases thin black seeds when ripe.”
Explaining that St. John's wort is widely used as an antidepressant, especially in Germany, Prof. Dr. Karabulut listed the health benefits of the plant as follows:
"It functions as a mild sedative and antispasmodic, helping with insomnia and anxiety. The plant has pain-relieving and healing properties, particularly supporting recovery after neuralgia, sciatica, and nerve damage. Externally, it is added to oil to heal wounds, bruises, and burns. St. John's wort can cause sensitivity to the sun in some cases; this property has been used in cancer treatment.
It helps alleviate pain caused by injuries occurring in the body. St. John's wort tea helps regulate nighttime sleep. For menstrual cramps, St. John's wort can be consumed warm during a woman's period, either on an empty or full stomach, in the morning and evening. St. John's wort tea is recommended for children who suffer from bedwetting.
The calming effect of St. John's wort tea plays an effective role in the treatment of this problem. Having a calming effect, St. John's wort supports the treatment of panic disorder. Due to the relationship between St. John's wort and depression, it has attracted attention as a plant prescribed for many years in Europe. You can consume St. John's wort tea for relaxation, especially on days when you are nervous and stressed.
St. John's wort can be used in oil form in the treatment of hemorrhoids. When St. John's wort oil is applied to hemorrhoid wounds along with honey, it shows a pain-reducing effect. Stating that the components of St. John's wort show antiviral activity against viruses such as the flu, Herpes simplex 1 and 2 in a laboratory environment, Karabulut also mentioned that the plant is used during Herpes outbreaks.

Expressing that the removal of toxic substances from the body facilitates access to fatty areas and makes the fat-burning process much simpler, Karabulut said, "It is recommended that you have meals with healthy plates and drink plenty of water.
