A study conducted in the UK has revealed that one in every two people experiences sunburn at least once a year. This situation stands out as one of the lesser-known causes of skin cancer. Deadly types of skin cancer, especially melanoma, are more common in individuals who frequently experience sunburn.
According to research by the charity Melanoma Focus, young people aged 18-32 were identified as the most at-risk group. Sixty-five percent of young people in this age group experience sunburn at least once a year. The research also showed that one-third of people do not use sunscreen in hot weather, and 42 percent of men never use this product at all.
YOUR HEALTH IS MORE IMPORTANT
Hannah Lowery, who was diagnosed with melanoma at the age of 32, stated that she frequently experienced sunburn during her youth and did not use sunscreen at that time. Lowery said, 'It is not worth risking my health for the sake of getting a tan.'
WHAT CAN BE DONE TO PROTECT AGAINST SKIN CANCER?
Experts recommend staying in the shade, wearing a hat, using sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and avoiding going out in the sun during the hottest hours of the day to protect against skin cancer. One in every 41 women and one in every 35 men are at risk of melanoma. For this reason, the importance of sun protection habits is emphasized once again.
