Temporary closure of livestock markets in Yozgat due to foot-and-mouth disease

A significant measure has been taken in Yozgat against the threat of foot-and-mouth disease observed in cattle. Due to a new strain of foot-and-mouth disease detected in neighboring provinces, all livestock markets across Yozgat have been temporarily closed as of today.

In a joint statement issued by the Yozgat Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and the Chamber of Veterinarians, it was reported that emergency measures have been implemented to prevent the spread of the disease.

The statement included the following: “The foot-and-mouth disease observed in neighboring provinces is a new strain, and vaccination efforts have begun across the region. No cases of this new strain of foot-and-mouth disease have been detected within the province of Yozgat. However, as a precautionary measure, animal movements throughout the province have been suspended until further notice. Given the importance of the matter, we kindly request that our livestock farmers halt the buying and selling of animals until the vaccination work is completed.”

Authorities emphasized that this decision, taken to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, is of great importance in protecting both animal health and livestock activities in the region. The markets are expected to reopen once the vaccination efforts are finished.
