If your tears aren't flowing, take note! You might have this syndrome
It has emerged that the cessation of tears or dry eyes can point to significant health problems. Specialist Dr. Tuncay Filiz issued a warning, stating, "The cessation of our tears points to significant problems. One must be wary of Sjögren's syndrome, which causes dry eyes and dry mouth. It also leads to immune deficiency."

Specialist Dr. Tuncay Filiz stated that the earliest signals for diseases such as anemia, jaundice, and hormonal disorders often come from the eyes. Noting that the eyes are harbingers of disease, Specialist Dr. Filiz said, "The cessation of our tears or dry eyes points to significant problems in their own right. At the forefront of these problems is a type of immune deficiency we call Sjögren's syndrome (SS), which should not be neglected."
'DRY MOUTH IS ALSO ADDED'
Kent Bayraklı Medical Center Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Tuncay Filiz drew attention to Sjögren's syndrome, which is one of the diseases where the immune system attacks itself, leading to dry eyes and dry mouth. Reminding that the immune system is the body's natural defense mechanism and that it fights its own body cells when it malfunctions, Specialist Dr. Filiz spoke as follows:
“The antibodies that are supposed to provide immunity lose their way and attack our bodies, especially our secretory glands. Our tear and salivary glands, which are under antibody attack, dry up and cannot produce secretions. Dry mouth is frequently added to the dry eyes seen in Sjögren's syndrome. In this case, disorders related to the function of both organs emerge, such as tooth decay, oral thrush, vision impairment, and eye inflammation.
Like other immune system diseases, Sjögren's syndrome has the potential to affect other organs. Symptoms such as dry mouth and dry eyes can be confused with other diseases, and while patients' quality of life gradually declines, diagnosis can be delayed. Early diagnosis is extremely important in terms of preventing organ damage. For this reason, one should not underestimate dry eyes and must undergo a health check-up."
'SEEN FREQUENTLY IN WOMEN'
On the other hand, Specialist Dr. Filiz stated that Sjögren's syndrome is generally seen after the age of 40 and mostly in women. Dr. Filiz noted that the eyes are the organs that give the earliest signals in diseases such as anemia, jaundice, and hormonal disorders. Stating that patients might attribute the cause of complaints such as dry mouth and dry eyes to the side effects of other medications they are taking, Dr. Filiz warned that diagnosis could be delayed.
