Tragedy after dinner in Istanbul: Two children lose their lives
A painful incident following a dinner in Istanbul has resulted in the death of two children and the hospitalization of their mother in intensive care.

The Birkent family, living in Eyüpsultan, Istanbul, began experiencing health problems after eating pasta and chicken on the evening of September 22. 4-year-old Alparslan and 2-year-old Melisa Rabia Birkent were rushed to the hospital with suspected poisoning but could not be saved despite medical interventions. The children were laid to rest in Arnavutköy.
MOTHER IN INTENSIVE CARE
Mother Aleyna Birkent was diagnosed with a heart attack and placed in intensive care. Father Yücel Birkent and the children were initially discharged after receiving treatment. However, the children's condition deteriorated again the following day, and they were taken back to the hospital.
POLICE LAUNCH INVESTIGATION
The incident was reported to the police as "food poisoning" on September 23. The police and the prosecutor's office have launched an investigation into the matter. While details regarding the dinner the family consumed are being examined, an autopsy report is awaited to determine the exact cause of death.
The horrific incident has once again highlighted the importance of sensitivity regarding food safety.
