Worrying research: Cancer deaths are rising!
Scientists predict that the number of people losing their lives to cancer could nearly double by 2050. Furthermore, a 77 percent increase in cancer cases is expected between 2022 and 2050.

The number of people dying from cancer worldwide is projected to nearly double by 2050. Habtamu Bizuayehu and his team from the University of Queensland in Australia used the Global Cancer Observatory database to examine the most recent case and mortality rates for 36 types of cancer across 185 countries, revealing this striking projection.
They then applied these rates to the United Nations Development Programme's 2050 population estimates to forecast future cases and deaths.
INCREASE IN CASES
Global cancer cases are expected to increase by approximately 77% between 2022 and 2050. This means that in addition to the 20 million cases in 2022, approximately 15.3 million new cancer cases will emerge by 2050.
MORTALITY RATES WILL ALSO RISE
Global cancer deaths are also projected to increase by approximately 90% from 2022 to 2050. This means that in addition to the 9.7 million people who died from the disease in 2022, another 8.8 million people will lose their lives by 2050.
The largest increases are expected to occur in countries ranked low or medium on the UN Human Development Index in terms of life expectancy, education level, and per capita income.
In low-ranked countries such as Nigeria and Afghanistan, cancer cases and deaths are stated to potentially triple by 2050.
In contrast, in countries with very high scores such as Norway, cancer cases and deaths are estimated to increase by 42% and 56%, respectively.
