20 arrested in İzmir-based illegal betting operation: 2 billion lira money traffic detected

In an illegal betting investigation conducted by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an operation was carried out against suspects evaluated to be engaged in organized money transfers and live support activities.
Following a tip-off received by the Cyber Crimes Branch Directorate, an investigation was launched, and residences and workplaces in İzmir, which were stated to be used as "finance houses," were examined. In the technical, physical, and financial surveillance conducted by the Provincial Security Directorate's Intelligence Branch and the Cyber Crimes Branch, accounts belonging to numerous banks and payment institutions were analyzed.
The examinations determined that the suspects mediated the transfer of money to illegal betting sites and provided live support services. Financial analyses identified a money flow of approximately 2 billion TL through the accounts in question.
Following the evidence obtained, simultaneous operations were conducted in İzmir, Aydın, Balıkesir, and Tekirdağ. Within the scope of the operation, arrest warrants were executed for a total of 36 suspects, including 31 in İzmir, 1 in Aydın, 3 in Balıkesir, and 1 in Tekirdağ. 34 suspects, including H.P., who was identified as the ringleader, were detained.
Searches conducted at the addresses resulted in the seizure of 1 unlicensed pistol, numerous digital materials, SIM cards, and cards belonging to banks and payment institutions. It was reported that examinations regarding the digital materials and financial data are ongoing.
Of the suspects referred to the courthouse after their procedures at the police station, 20 people, including H.P., were arrested by the court. While 13 suspects were released under judicial control conditions, 1 person was released after giving their statement.
