The Court of Cassation has reached a decision regarding the application filed by the People's Liberation Party (HKP) against Governor Osman Varol, who attended the funeral ceremony held in the Kahta district on July 13 for Menzil Sect Sheikh Abdülbaki Erol, on charges of “violating the Constitution,” “misconduct in office,” and “engaging in activities contrary to Law No. 677 on the Closure of Dervish Convents and Tombs, the Abolition of Tomb-Keeping, and the Prohibition and Abolition of Certain Titles.”

Chief Public Prosecutor of the Court of Cassation Bekir Şahin decided “not to process” the application regarding Osman Varol.

The decision included the following statements:

“As a result of the examination and evaluation, it is understood that the act of Adıyaman Governor Osman Varol, which consisted solely of attending a funeral ceremony and regarding whom there is no allegation of any other act constituting a crime, does not constitute the crimes of violating the Constitution, misconduct in office, or acting contrary to Law No. 677; therefore, it has been decided not to process the report and complaint in accordance with the fourth paragraph of Article 4 of Law No. 4483.”
