Betting operation ahead of World Cup final: 6,314 accounts blocked

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that 6,314 bank accounts were identified during an investigation into illegal betting traffic conducted ahead of the World Cup final match. Gürlek stated that simultaneous notices were sent to banks to place an instant block on the accounts in question as soon as the final match begins.
According to Gürlek's statement, the work was carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Illegal Betting and Sports Crimes Investigation Bureau. It was stated that the operation was conducted in coordination with the Ministry of Interior.
Within the scope of the investigation, 19 external financial institutions assessed to be working in integration with illegal betting sites were uncovered. Additionally, it was announced that judicial proceedings have been initiated to apprehend 23 suspects.
