Non-pecuniary damages awarded against Beyaz TV and Osman Gökçek

The court ruling in the compensation lawsuit filed by the Istanbul Medical Chamber has been announced. The Istanbul 30th Civil Court of First Instance has ordered AKP Ankara MP Osman Gökçek and Beyaz TV to pay 40 thousand liras in non-pecuniary damages due to accusations directed at Cardiologist Dr. Cegerğun Polat.

Dr. Cegerğun Polat, who served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Medical Chamber between 2022 and 2024, was targeted in the public eye during the process known as the "Newborn Case," which resulted in the closure of a hospital. It was stated that despite having no involvement, Polat faced unfair accusations due to the hospital where he worked. Following the mention of his name, particularly through a television program and social media posts, the Istanbul Medical Chamber announced that they had filed a non-pecuniary damages lawsuit against Osman Gökçek and Beyaz TV.

As a result of the lawsuit, it was decided that Beyaz TV and Osman Gökçek must pay 40 thousand liras to Dr. Polat. The Medical Chamber also shared with the public that Dr. Cegerğun Polat will donate this compensation amount to a scholarship fund established for medical students.
