Remziye Horuz, who was staying at the Abdurrahim Arvasi Girls' Dormitory in Ağrı, fell ill after eating a cake during a surprise birthday celebration organized by her friends on December 2.
When purchasing the cake, her friends had specifically requested an egg-free cake, noting that Horuz had an egg allergy. However, shortly after eating the cake, Horuz became ill and was rushed to the Ağrı Training and Research Hospital, where she was admitted to the intensive care unit. Despite all efforts, the young student passed away.
Following the incident, an investigation was launched by the Ağrı Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and two bakery employees, Y.A. and F.Y., were taken into custody. Additionally, samples taken from the cake were sent to the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry Laboratory to determine whether it contained eggs.
FAMILY DEMANDS JUSTICE
Following the autopsy, Remziye Horuz's body was brought to her hometown of Viranşehir in Şanlıurfa, where she was laid to rest. Her father, Salih Horuz, stated that he had sent his daughter to university to get an education, saying, "Losing my daughter is very difficult for me. We want justice."
Her sister, Emine Horuz, said, "We want those responsible for this negligence to be found. We will not let our rights go." Her brother, Bilal Horuz, also stated, "Before eating the cake, my sister asked three times, 'Does it contain eggs?' She was told it did not. We are filing a complaint against those who caused my sister's death."
