The Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance ruled that the legal elements of the crime of "violating the Law No. 2863 on the Protection of Cultural and Natural Property" were not met and ordered their acquittal.
The background of the case involved an indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which stemmed from an investigation launched following a report of unauthorized construction activity. The indictment stated that while the area in question could not be entered, external inspections indicated that the structure was under construction and the work had not yet been completed.
