Precedent-setting ruling from the Court of Cassation: Saying 'You're not husband material' is grounds for divorce!
A precedent-setting decision has been issued by the Court of Cassation in a divorce case between a couple in Ankara. The 2nd Civil Chamber of the Court of Cassation ruled that the wife's statement to her husband, 'You're not husband material,' constitutes valid grounds for divorce.

A man in Ankara who was unable to get along with his wife applied to the Family Court and filed for divorce. The Family Court found both parties equally at fault for the events leading to the divorce and granted the couple's divorce.
According to a report by İlker Turak from Sabah, the defendant wife appealed the court's decision. The appellate court decided to dismiss the case on the grounds that the defendant wife's fault could not be proven. Although the couple reunited after this decision, the incompatibility continued.
Following the case, which went to court again and was carried to the Court of Cassation, the 2nd Civil Chamber issued a precedent-setting ruling. It determined that after the couple reunited following the divorce case filed by the husband and subsequently dismissed, the wife insulted her husband by saying, "Who are you? You're not husband material; they didn't raise you to be a man; are you this incompetent?", that the wife told the man's brother, "I cannot give up my family for my husband," and that the wife's family frequently visited the couple's home and stayed overnight for long periods. The court ruled that under these conditions, it is no longer legally possible to force the spouses to live together.
The 2nd Civil Chamber of the Court of Cassation stated that it was incorrect for the regional court of justice to dismiss the case with insufficient reasoning and decided to overturn the appealed decision.
In its ruling, the Court of Cassation emphasized that the phrase "you're not husband material" is a valid ground for divorce.
