Dilek İmamoğlu emphasizes the process commission

Saraçhane Park hosted the 26th meeting of the Family Solidarity Network (ADA). The event, organized by the families of those victimized by the developments on March 19 to draw attention to injustices, was attended by CHP officials, members of parliament, journalists, artists, and numerous citizens.

The statement during the meeting was delivered by Dr. Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu, a civil society volunteer and the wife of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was arrested and removed from office during the March 31 elections.

Dr. Dilek İmamoğlu stated that the meeting coinciding with the first days of Ramadan held special significance, noting that Ramadan symbolizes righteousness, compassion, sharing, and the pursuit of justice. She said, "The month of Ramadan teaches us not only to fast, but to speak the truth, to stay away from slander, and to know the weight of violating the rights of others. This month unites not only our tables but also our hearts. That is why I wish for Ramadan to bring peace, justice, and abundance to our country. Because this is exactly what we need most today."

DEMAND FOR JUSTICE RISES AT THE EVENT

Referring to the events of 2025, when Ekrem İmamoğlu’s diploma was cancelled and he was subsequently detained while having iftar with his family, İmamoğlu stated that very little has changed since those days when justice was suspended. "On a day of Ramadan, this time we are left alone with missing plates at our iftar tables, empty chairs, and the silence of the absence of our loved ones. For a year and a half, we have been standing together not only for ourselves, but for our families, for justice, and for our future. The Family Solidarity Network is the embodiment of this country's conscience," she said.

In her statement, Dilek İmamoğlu shared important notes regarding the recently published process commission report, reminding that the report, which was also signed by the AK Party and MHP, emphasized that ECHR and Constitutional Court rulings must be followed. She issued a call: "This report bears the signature of the government and the signature of Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş. If you are truly sincere, implement these recommendations immediately, right now!"

Dr. İmamoğlu emphasized that justice cannot remain in the shadow of politics, stating that as a requirement of the rule of law, trial without detention should be the basis, otherwise law and conscience are harmed. She noted that fair trial is necessary for everyone and that political pressures exerted through the judiciary leave deep marks on society.

EMPHASIS ON COMPLIANCE WITH RULINGS AND TRANSPARENCY

Citing the report created in Parliament which bears the signatures of different parties, Dilek İmamoğlu drew attention to the phrase: "The importance of full compliance with ECHR and Constitutional Court rulings is clear. Full compliance with ECHR and Constitutional Court rulings must be ensured..." Stating that freedom of expression and the rule of law are the foundation of social welfare, Dilek İmamoğlu also made the following call: "If there is real trust in justice, trials must be transparent. We trust ourselves. For this reason, we demand that the hearings be broadcast live on TRT screens. There should be no fear of the truth being seen. Because the truth cannot be hidden."

During the meeting, relatives of detainees shared their grievances and demands with the public. Gönül Bayraktar, a companion of Bakırköy Deputy Mayor Ali Rıza Akyüz, who has been in prison for 300 days, sent a message of support, saying, "Solidarity is the greatest strength. We will not be silent, we will not forget, we will not give up. Until justice is served and freedom arrives, our solidarity will continue and we will stand behind Mayor Ali Rıza."

Huri Türkmen, the wife of Çağlar Türkmen, said, "The real shame is not a child growing up without a father, but this country growing up with injustice. We want justice; not revenge, not silence. Let Çağlar Türkmen and all detainees be released."

SIMILAR STORIES, SAME DEMANDS

Zeynep Güven, the mother of Elif Güven, rebelled, saying, "We want justice, rights, law, and freedom. Enough is enough, we are tired." Aslı Cebeci, the wife of Recep Cebeci, described their hardship, saying, "I have a 10-year-old son. When he asks, 'Mom, when is Dad coming home?', I cannot answer him. We want justice and the law to move forward quickly now. We wish for freedom for our prisoners."

Another speaker, Tuba Torun Aydoğdu, the wife and lawyer of former CHP MP Aykut Erdoğdu, reiterated the emphasis on law, stating, "We are going through a period these days where the rights of others are being violated in the most comprehensive way, I believe... Unfortunately, we are experiencing very difficult processes regarding these as well. The religion of the state is also justice... We call on you to take action as soon as possible to establish justice, which is the religion of the state, without violating more rights during the month of Ramadan. I wish you a good Ramadan."

At the Family Solidarity Network meeting, relatives of detainees demanded with a common voice the return of justice and the rule of law. It was once again emphasized that human rights violations and arrests should not be used as political tools and that judicial decisions should be based on legal foundations rather than being arbitrary.
