DNA detail in the death of Rojin Kabaiş: A critical threshold in the investigation
In the investigation into the death of university student Rojin Kabaiş, who was found dead 18 days after going missing in Van, two DNA samples identified in the Forensic Medicine report have come under scrutiny. Van Bar Association President Sinan Özaraz stated that the locations of the DNA on the body are of critical importance to the investigation.

Rojin Kabaiş, a first-year student in the Child Development Department at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, went missing after leaving her dormitory on September 27 last year, and her lifeless body was found on the shore of Mollakasım neighborhood on October 15.
While the judicial investigation into the incident continues, Van Bar Association President Sinan Özaraz stated that the bar has been closely following the file from the beginning. Noting that they have made various requests to the Council of Forensic Medicine and the prosecutor's office for the investigation to proceed properly, Özaraz reminded that there is a confidentiality order on the file.
Evaluating the two different DNA samples included in the autopsy reports, Özaraz said that these DNA samples had previously been reflected in the reports. He stated that the DNA samples were initially explained as a possible contamination, but that they requested samples be taken from all personnel involved at the scene and in the judicial processes to eliminate this possibility. "We were told that this work was being done, but we cannot fully access the file due to the confidentiality order," said Özaraz, adding that if the possibility of contamination is ruled out, these DNA samples will be evaluated as suspicious.
Özaraz emphasized that the work regarding why the DNA samples are included in the scope of the file should be expanded in line with the report to come from Forensic Medicine. "It must be reported in which parts of the body the DNA was detected. Not having access to this information prevents the investigation from being conducted quickly and effectively," he said.
