First lawsuit filed against AI journalism! '...a void that no computer can fill'

The New York Times, one of the leading media organizations in the US, has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft over copyright issues related to its written works. With this lawsuit, The New York Times has initiated the first major media case against companies developing artificial intelligence platforms. In the lawsuit filed in the Southern District of New York, it is alleged that millions of articles published by The New York Times were used to train chatbots.

The lawsuit states that the defendants' illegal copying and use of the newspaper's works have caused billions of dollars in legal and actual damages, and calls on the companies to remove all chatbot models and training data that use the newspaper's copyrighted works. Furthermore, it is noted that OpenAI and Microsoft are accused of creating products that would replace the newspaper by using The New York Times' content for free.

The newspaper's complaint also included the statement: "If news organizations cannot produce and protect their independent journalism, a void will emerge that no computer or artificial intelligence can fill."
