Handover at the Constitutional Court: Gökcan leaves his post to Fidan

Following the publication of the decision regarding the election of İrfan Fidan as Deputy President of the Constitutional Court (AYM) in the Official Gazette, a handover ceremony was held at the high court.

İrfan Fidan was elected to the position of deputy president as a result of the vote held in the General Assembly, replacing Hasan Tahsin Gökcan, whose term had expired. In this context, both a handover and a farewell ceremony were held at the AYM.

ÖZKAYA: “HE MADE SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE JUDICIAL COMMUNITY”

Speaking at the ceremony, AYM President Kadir Özkaya stated that Hasan Tahsin Gökcan had made significant contributions to the court's institutional knowledge, saying, "Mr. Gökcan is an elite jurist who has left his mark not only on a theoretical level but also in the most challenging areas of practice with his expertise in criminal law. The works he has authored and the intellectual framework he has established have served as a guide for many jurists working in the field of criminal law. As we bid him farewell today, we know that the works he leaves behind are not limited to the duties he undertook or the articles he wrote. Throughout his professional life, he has represented the dignity of the law, the subtlety of justice, and the sense of responsibility befitting a member of the judiciary."

GÖKCAN: “JUSTICE IS THE FOUNDATION OF SOCIAL INTEGRITY”

Hasan Tahsin Gökcan, who handed over his duties, drew attention to the critical position of justice services within the state structure in his speech, stating, "The establishment of justice is like a prerequisite for peace in the country, keeping the people together, and for unity and integrity. Therefore, the duty of realizing justice is a sacred duty given to judges. The constitutional justice duty assigned to our court concerns the provision of justice services in terms of the entire legal system and at the national level. From the day I started until today, we have endeavored to fulfill this duty properly with our very valuable president and members with whom we have worked. It is thanks to these superior efforts that our court maintains its respected place among state institutions."

DUTY OFFICIALLY HANDED OVER

Following the speeches, Hasan Tahsin Gökcan handed over the deputy presidency to İrfan Fidan. In his assessment at the ceremony, Fidan thanked Gökcan for his contributions to the court and conveyed his best wishes for the new term.

FİDAN’S PREVIOUS DUTIES

İrfan Fidan, a former Chief Public Prosecutor of Istanbul, took part in investigations that resonated widely in the public eye, such as the Selam Tevhid investigation, the stopping of the MİT trucks, the Can Dündar–Erdem Gül case, as well as the Gezi Resistance and the Osman Kavala file.
