İsmet Sayhan arrested in criminal organization investigation

Former Chairman of the Board of the Machinery and Chemical Industry (MKE) İsmet Sayhan has been arrested as part of an investigation into a criminal organization led by Selahattin Yılmaz.

Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, İsmet Sayhan, who was determined to have links to a criminal organization allegedly led by Selahattin Yılmaz, was detained in Ankara on August 24.

Following procedures at the Istanbul Police Department and a medical check-up, Sayhan was referred to the Istanbul Courthouse.

After giving his statement to the prosecutor, Sayhan was brought before the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on charges of "using documents related to the security of the state for purposes other than their intended use, and obtaining them through deception," and was subsequently arrested and sent to prison. Sayhan's close relationship with MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli had previously been a subject of public debate.

DETAILS OF THE INVESTIGATION

In operations centered in Istanbul and carried out in Ankara, Antalya, Muğla, and Samsun, 17 people were detained as part of the investigation into the organized crime group.

Following their procedures at the police station, 10 suspects referred to the courthouse were arrested by the judgeship, while 6 people were released under judicial control, and 7 were released.
