Journalist Elif Akgül, who was arrested on February 21 as part of an HDK investigation, has been released following an appeal by her lawyers. The imprisonment of journalist Ercüment Akdeniz, who is also detained in the same case, continues.

A release decision has been issued for journalist Elif Akgül, who was arrested on February 21 as part of an operation targeting the HDK. In a statement made by the Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA), it was stated that the appeal filed by Akgül's lawyers was accepted and the court issued the release decision in accordance with the preliminary report.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
In a statement issued by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that detention warrants had been issued for 60 people as part of the investigation conducted into the HDK.
The statement reported that 51 people were detained in 10 provinces during the Istanbul-based operation. It was also reported that, citing a confidentiality order on the file, the detainees' access to their lawyers was restricted for 24 hours.
Of the 51 people brought to the Istanbul Courthouse, 27 were arrested and 13 were placed under house arrest.
YILDIZ TAR HAD BEEN RELEASED
Journalist Yıldız Tar, who was arrested as part of the same case, was released on Sunday, May 30. Speaking to İlke TV after her release, Tar drew attention to the journalists who are still in prison, stating, "Let me say at the beginning what I would say at the end: Dear Ercüment Akdeniz and Elif Akgül are still in prison. We expect them to regain their freedom as soon as possible."
Journalist Ercüment Akdeniz remains in custody as part of the HDK investigation.
