Judicial recess begins on July 20: Duty courts will handle urgent cases

The judicial recess, known as the "collective leave period" in the judiciary, will begin on July 20. The recess period will end on August 31, and the new judicial year will begin with the start of September.

During this period, duty courts will operate in courthouses. Duty courts will handle files involving detainees and cases of an urgent nature. Other cases and proceedings will be postponed until the new judicial year.

DUTY PANELS WILL BE ON DUTY

Duty panels will also serve during the judicial recess in the high judicial bodies, the Council of State (Danıştay) and the Court of Cassation (Yargıtay). The duty panel at the Council of State will not be able to issue rulings on the merits; it will only be able to rule on requests for "stays of execution."

At the Court of Cassation, two duty chambers, one for criminal and one for civil matters, will be in operation. The duty criminal chamber will handle files concerning detained defendants. The Constitutional Court is not covered by the judicial recess.

The judicial recess begins on July 20 and ends on August 31 each year, in accordance with Article 102 of the Code of Civil Procedure, Article 331 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, Article 86 of the Council of State Law, and Article 61 of the Administrative Procedure Law.

With the start of the new judicial year, some cases closely followed by the public in the capital will also continue. On September 3, the trial of 76 defendants regarding the Ayhan Bora Kaplan criminal organization will be heard following the appellate court's reversal decision.

On September 17, the trial of 9 defendants regarding the Ankara structure of the Maydonoz Döner businesses, for which the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) was appointed as a trustee on the grounds that it provided financing to FETÖ, will continue. On September 22, the hearing for the trial of defendant Ümitcan Uygun, who is being tried in connection with the death of Sema Esen, known to the public as "Aleyna Çakır," will be held.

The hearing for the trial of 4 defendants regarding the death of police officer Melih Okan Keskin in a fight at a vehicle inspection station will continue on September 30. On October 14, the trial of 10 defendants regarding the assassination of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Necip Hablemitoğlu, and on October 16, the trial of 14 defendants regarding the concert expenditures of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality in the 2021-2024 period will be heard.

In the new judicial year, indictments are also expected to be prepared in some investigations conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. These include the "bribery" investigation into suspects, including Çankaya Mayor Hüseyin Can Güner, and the investigation into the crash of Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu's helicopter.
