A new phase has been reached in the investigation conducted by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the death of former Minister of Transport Ahmet Arif Denizolgun. The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office reported that, based on the evidence obtained, separate public lawsuits have been filed against 6 individuals.
In the statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that a lawsuit was filed against the detained N.D., identified as Denizolgun's private physician, for the crime of "perjury." The statement recorded that public lawsuits were filed against Forensic Medicine Institute officials identified as I.Ç., Ç.K., and S.Ç. for "forgery of documents," and against A.G.D.K. and H.T.K. for "destruction of evidence of a crime."
The statement expressed that the lawsuits were filed on October 2, 2026, "within the framework of the evidence obtained as part of the investigation conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the allegation of the suspicious death of former Minister of Transport Ahmet Arif Denizolgun." The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that the investigation into the suspicious death allegation is continuing in a multi-faceted manner.
The investigation had been expanded following allegations and complaints regarding Denizolgun's death in 2016 and the autopsy procedures conducted at that time. Upon the request of the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an exhumation was performed at Karacaahmet Cemetery on August 19, and samples taken from the grave were sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute for re-examination.
Previously, footage from the 2016 autopsy had also been re-examined in the file. The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had announced that the expert report prepared by a forensic medicine specialist based on the video recordings evaluated the death as suspicious; following this, it was reported that an investigation was being conducted against suspects, including Alihan Kuriş, for the crime of "homicide."
