The Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) Istanbul Branch shared that their member, lawyer Naim Eminoğlu, who was arrested last December, has been released from prison. The association published a statement regarding Eminoğlu's release on its official social media accounts. The post stated, “Our branch executive, lawyer Naim Eminoğlu, was released today following a detention review. We will continue our struggle against attacks targeting our profession until all our colleagues are free!”
In a press conference held in December, Eminoğlu had expressed his opinion that the 11th Judicial Package, which had not yet been accepted at the time, should not grant amnesty to those responsible in cases related to the February 6 earthquakes. In his statement at the meeting, he had used the phrase, “They call it the disaster of the century, this is the massacre of the century.”
Following these statements, Eminoğlu was detained within a few days as part of an investigation and was arrested on the evening of December 11 on charges of “being a member of the FETÖ/PDY armed terrorist organization.” During the detention review held yesterday, it was decided that Eminoğlu should be released.
