New demands in the Rojin Kabaiş investigation: 7,353 vehicles and new DNA analyses on the agenda

New investigation requests have emerged in the probe into the death of 21-year-old university student Rojin Kabaiş, whose lifeless body was found on the lakeshore 18 days after she went missing in Van on September 27, 2024.
Rojin Kabaiş's father, Nizamettin Kabaiş, and the family's lawyers, Abdurrahman Karabulut and Şahin Cangüleç, met with members of the press in Van regarding the current stage of the case. Lawyer Karabulut stated that they have filed applications with the prosecutor's office on approximately 30 separate issues since July 10, that the majority of these requests have been accepted, and that investigations are ongoing.
VEHICLE RECORDS AND CELL TOWER DATA TO BE EXAMINED
According to Karabulut, 7,353 land vehicles were identified through the License Plate Recognition System and camera footage as part of the investigation. The family's lawyers requested that records related to these vehicles be re-examined from the day Rojin went missing until the date her body was found, that the drivers be identified, and that their mobile phone, HTS, and cell tower records be investigated.
The lawyers also stated that their request for DNA samples to be taken from the drivers was accepted by the prosecutor's office. A comprehensive investigation was also requested in the settlements located on the route between Bardakçı Neighborhood and Mollakasım Çarpanak Island, where Rojin's body was found.
In the case, an investigation was requested not only for land vehicles but also for marine vessels connected to the route. While it was requested that DNA research on materials found in the region continue, it was stated that the slipper said to belong to Rojin has not yet been found.
The family's lawyers reported that they have also applied to the prosecutor's office to request detailed data from Meta regarding the WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook accounts that Rojin Kabaiş used before she went missing. It was stated that more comprehensive information was requested following the initial response and that a new reply is awaited.
Lawyer Şahin Cangüleç said that DNA analyses have been conducted on 415 people to date, but no decisive findings have been reached regarding the investigation. Cangüleç announced that there is a new list of 50 people identified by the prosecutor's office and that DNA analyses will be performed for these individuals as well.
Karabulut further stated that their request for an investigation into an individual whose presence in the area where Rojin went missing during the hours of the incident was reflected in reports has been accepted. Stating that the identity of this person is not being disclosed for the integrity of the investigation, Karabulut said that they have also filed a criminal complaint against another person with whom Rojin is said to have communicated via social media shortly before she went missing, and that they have requested their detention.
It was noted that the expert report prepared as part of the investigation also includes assessments regarding Rojin's phone activity and the activity detected in the area's camera footage on the same night.
