New steps being taken for 'children dragged into crime'
A parliamentary research commission will be established to prevent children under the age of 18 from becoming involved in crime.

Regulations concerning children dragged into crime have been removed from the 11th Judicial Package, and it has been decided to establish a comprehensive research commission on this matter. AKP officials stated that this commission, which will conduct work prioritizing the best interests of children, will address all issues affecting children, from education to health.
This regulation, which began to be discussed more intensely following the tragic death of 15-year-old Ahmet Minguzzi, was initially included in the draft of the 11th Judicial Package. The draft had planned to increase prison sentences for children aged 15-18 who are dragged into crime. However, non-governmental organizations operating in the field of children's rights criticized the proposal, arguing that it was contrary to the best interests of children and the constitution.
Taking these criticisms into account, the AKP decided to have the regulation examined in detail by a research commission to be established in Parliament. The regulation will be re-evaluated in line with the report to be prepared by the commission and will then be brought to the parliamentary agenda.
On the other hand, there are plans to increase penalties for gangs that encourage children to commit crimes. It is anticipated that the sentences given to gangs under the scope of organized crime will be doubled. This regulation is expected to be submitted to Parliament next week.
