No action taken following report of irregularities at Elazığ Municipality

An expert report prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which revealed irregularities in tenders awarded by the Elazığ Municipality to Aziz İhsan Aktaş, has sparked public debate. The report stated that the municipality awarded a total of eight tenders worth 808 million TL to Aktaş's company and that competitive conditions were not met in these tenders. Specifically, it was noted that only two bids were valid for the 539 million 915 thousand TL vehicle rental tender held in 2024.
Although the expert report was submitted to the prosecutor's office on July 7, 2025, no legal action has been initiated against the Elazığ Municipality. This situation has been criticized, particularly by opposition parties, and has reinforced claims that judicial processes regarding AKP-run municipalities are progressing slowly.
On the other hand, it is known that operations were quickly organized and mayors were detained following similar allegations against CHP-run municipalities. The mayors of the CHP-run Adana, Ceyhan, Seyhan, Beyoğlu, Avcılar, and Beşiktaş municipalities were arrested following confessions by Aziz İhsan Aktaş, and lawsuits were filed against them on October 20.
These developments have fueled debates among political parties regarding the unequal application of justice. In this process, which the public is following closely, it remains a matter of curiosity whether any steps will be taken regarding the Elazığ Municipality.
