The election marathon in the high judiciary continues.
Following the expiration of Court of Cassation President Mehmet Akarca's 4-year term, the High Court went to the polls on Monday, March 25, to determine its new president who will serve for the next 4 years.
Because no candidate was able to receive at least 175 votes, which is the absolute majority of the 348 Court of Cassation members, in the first 22 rounds of the election, the 23rd round of voting was held today.
As a result of the voting, Mehmet Akarca received 90 votes, 3rd Civil Chamber President Ömer Kerkez received 107 votes, and 3rd Criminal Chamber President Muhsin Şentürk received 124 votes. While participation in the election was recorded as 329, 8 votes were deemed invalid.
No result was reached in the 24th round of voting, where an absolute majority could not be secured.
