YENİ Party Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik gave a statement to the prosecutor as part of an investigation launched regarding the Üsküdar Deputy Mayor election.

Çelik arrived at the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan at 09:30. It was learned that the statement process at the prosecutor's office lasted approximately 2 hours.

Welcomed by party officials, district chairs, and lawyers at the courthouse entrance, Çelik made a brief statement. Çelik said, “We told the truth in front of the Üsküdar Municipality. Now, we will give our statement to the prosecutor together with our lawyers and friends. We will tell the truth there as well.”

It was stated that the investigation was launched following statements made by Çelik after the Üsküdar Deputy Mayor election held on September 8.

In his statement after the election, Çelik had stated that Üsküdar Municipal Council Member Ayhan Aydın had called him, and that Aydın had said, “The prosecutor threatened me with arrest; my son and wife are disabled, who will look after them? Because there is no one else to look after them, I surrendered to them.”

Ayhan Aydın had also given a statement as part of the investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. It was noted that in his statement, Aydın claimed that numerous phone calls were made with him at Çelik's request before the election and that attempts were made to exert pressure during these calls.
