The panel of the Istanbul 14th High Criminal Court delivered its ruling during the hearing where Demir was being tried.
Ramazan Demir was found guilty of "membership in an armed terrorist organization" and "making propaganda for a terrorist organization" and was sentenced to a total of 11 years and 3 months in prison. The court did not apply any reductions to the sentence.
Following the public announcement of the verdict, Ramazan Demir shared the following statement on his social media account regarding his conviction:
"My share has turned out to be a total of 11 years and 3 months in prison, without any reduction, for both membership in an organization and propaganda for an organization. May our people be well."
If the verdict against Demir becomes final, he is expected to remain in prison for a long period. This decision regarding Demir, who has been involved in numerous political cases throughout the legal process, has resonated widely within judicial circles and among human rights defenders.
