Private information of 136 celebrities, including Şeyma Subaşı, Aleyna Tilki, and Serenay Sarıkaya, was shared

Two personnel working at the Fatih Land Registry Office were involved in a scandal.

Following a tip-off, it was alleged that certain personnel at the Land Registry Office shared real estate information, which constitutes personal data, with unauthorized individuals. An investigation, both judicial and administrative, was launched into the individuals who were determined to have queried the names provided by real estate agents and "fixers" (business intermediaries).

Within the scope of the judicial investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that land registry officers named Rıza K. and Yusuf D. accessed the real estate and population records of a total of 136 people without authorization. Following this determination, the Inspection Board of the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization also launched an investigation into these two personnel.

CELEBRITY NAMES ON THE LIST

The Inspection Board prepared a preliminary investigation report on the personnel. The report stated that the individuals whose real estate and population information were accessed by Rıza K. and Yusuf D. without authorization were from the worlds of art and business. The report detailed that hundreds of celebrities were on the list, including İrem Sak, Simge Sağın, Bensu Soral, Burcu Biricik, Mazhar Alanson, Serdar Ortaç, Nagehan Alçı, Bade İşcil, Yasmin Erbil, and Serenay Sarıkaya.

It was also determined that the land registry personnel obtained the Turkish ID numbers of 43 celebrities whose real estate and property they checked, and entered the Population and Citizenship Portal to conduct checks on their spouses, siblings, mothers, and fathers. While it emerged through the system that the suspects performed this practice repeatedly, it was also determined that Rıza K. and Yusuf D. gained access to the Manavgat and Beşiktaş Land Registry Offices to obtain information on previously sold real estate.

THEY WERE SENTENCED TO PRISON

At the end of the investigation, the prosecutor's office concluded that the two suspects working at the land registry had accessed personal data without authorization, as evidenced by the preliminary investigation report prepared by the ministry, and therefore should be punished, leading to the preparation of an indictment against them.

The two suspects, who were tried in the Criminal Court of First Instance for the crime of 'Unlawful Acquisition of Personal Data', were sentenced to 3 years, 1 month, and 15 days in prison for unlawfully obtaining personal data.

Following the prison sentence, the file was sent to the Regional Court of Justice upon appeal for review. After the review, it was stated that the decision rendered was only applied once for each of the two land registry personnel, which was insufficient.

The decision, which explained that each of the 136 celebrities in the file was a separate victim and therefore punishment should have been applied for each victim, remained only at the level of criticism as there was no objection from any victim. (Sabah)
