Release order issued for Remzi Sanver, who was arrested in the Can Holding investigation

A new development has occurred in the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into Can Holding. A decision has been made to release Remzi Sanver, President of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Turkey, who was arrested on October 17, 2025, as part of the investigation.

Sanver's imprisonment, which lasted for approximately eight months, had brought about legal and administrative debates within the association's management. It was stated that because Sanver could not effectively perform his duties as president, a general assembly could not be held within the period stipulated by the bylaws.

During this process, association member Ali Rıza Aral applied to the court, claiming that a power vacuum had emerged in the management, and requested the appointment of a trustee. Evaluating the application, the Istanbul Duty Civil Court of Peace decided to appoint a trustee to the association for a temporary period.

Following the decision, the association's management rejected the trustee allegations in a public statement, arguing that the court's decision was in the nature of a temporary measure. With the release decision regarding Sanver, how the process concerning the investigation and the association's management will proceed remains to be seen.
