Significant developments continue to unfold in the investigation launched following the disappearance of Gülistan Doku, a second-year Child Development student at Munzur University, on January 5, 2020. During the investigation process, 12 of the 15 individuals detained in connection with the incident were arrested, while the other 3 were released under judicial control conditions.

A red notice was issued by Interpol for the fugitive suspect Umut Altaş, who was in the USA. As a result of an operation carried out in cooperation with US authorities, Altaş was apprehended and taken into custody in the USA on May 22, and the process for his extradition to the country was initiated.

In a statement made before his capture, Altaş stated that he did not know the exact location of the body, pointing to Munzur University and its surroundings, as well as the area near the water treatment plant in the Aktuluk neighborhood and the landfill in the Bayraktepe area as locations that should be investigated.

In the Gülistan Doku investigation, searches have been intensified in areas identified through narrowed base station data, under the coordination of both the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Justice. Teams from the Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK), Gendarmerie Crime Investigation Team (JASAT), and the Central Gendarmerie Commando Battalion Command under the Tunceli Provincial Gendarmerie Command are taking part in the efforts. Thanks to three-dimensional images obtained from underground imaging devices, the teams are meticulously continuing their examinations in various parts of Tunceli, especially in the areas between Rostar and Dinar Creek. Suspicious areas underground are being examined in detail using infrared signals.

Authorities stated that the efforts will continue with the same determination to obtain a concrete lead regarding Gülistan Doku.
