In South Korea, 81-year-old O Yeong-su, who gained attention for his performance in the series "Squid Game," has been cleared in a trial where he was accused of sexually harassing a woman in 2017. The Suwon District Court, which had previously sentenced the actor to 8 months in prison, stated that the victim's statements were inconsistent and that the incident could not be classified as sexual harassment.
The court noted that the victim's memories might have become confused due to the long time that had passed since the incident. Based on these grounds, O Yeong-su's sentence was overturned and an acquittal was issued.
O Yeong-su had been accused of forcibly hugging a woman and kissing her on the cheek during a tour in 2017. The actor had apologized at the request of the victim.
O Yeong-su, who was awarded a Golden Globe for his role in "Squid Game" in 2022, was sentenced to 8 months in prison in March 2024, but that sentence had been suspended for 2 years.
