Testimonies of two suspects who attacked referee Meler revealed

The judicial testimonies of the two suspects who were arrested after entering the pitch and attacking referee Halil Umut Meler alongside former MKE Ankaragücü President Faruk Koca following the match between MKE Ankaragücü and Çaykur Rizespor have been revealed.

"I KICKED AT THE REFEREE"

Suspect Y.Ş. stated that he was not aware of whether he had hit referee Meler, saying, "I kicked at the referee. However, I am not aware of whether I hit him. I entered the pitch after the match because the referee's decisions were wrong. A scuffle broke out. I kicked during the scuffle. I am regretful."

"IT WAS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED"

The other suspect, K.Ç., said during his judicial interrogation, "It was something that should not have happened. Such an incident occurred due to the atmosphere of the match. I am not even aware of what happened. I do not remember how I hit the referee either. I am regretful."

BACKGROUND OF THE INCIDENT

Former MKE Ankaragücü Club President Faruk Koca and two individuals accompanying him attacked referee Halil Umut Meler on the pitch after the match against Çaykur Rizespor, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Following the attack on referee Meler, the leagues were postponed and an investigation was launched into the incident. Former President Koca and the two individuals accompanying him were arrested by the duty magistrate judge.
