They had sent threatening messages to Atlas Çağlayan's relatives: 'I acted out of ignorance, I regret it'

Muhammed Yusuf Kazıcı, who sent various threatening messages to family members following the death of Atlas Çağlayan, who was stabbed to death by E.Ç. in Güngören on January 14, appeared before the Bakırköy 15th High Criminal Court, facing a total of up to 19 years and 3 months in prison for "attempted robbery at night," "disturbing the peace and tranquility of individuals," and "obtaining personal data in a chain manner." Kazıcı delivered his defense during the hearing via the SEGBİS video conferencing system.

The defendant faces a requested sentence of 2 years and 9 months to 12 years and 3 months for the crimes allegedly committed against Gülhan Ünlü, as well as an additional 2 years and 6 months to 7 years for obtaining the family's personal data in a chain manner. It was stated that within the scope of the investigation, Kazıcı also committed acts against members of the Çağlayan family, including Atlas, Doruk, Ayaz, and Arden.

DEFENDANT'S DEFENSE: "I ACTED OUT OF IGNORANCE, I REGRET IT"

Given the floor during the hearing, the detained defendant Kazıcı admitted that the threatening messages and social media posts mentioned in the indictment belonged to him, stating, "I sent the messages and made the posts written in the indictment. I acted out of ignorance. I do not know Atlas Çağlayan or the complainants. There is no issue of a 40 thousand lira debt. I sent those messages because I got carried away on social media. I had seen Gülhan Ünlü on social media. While I was browsing there, I sent messages out of ignorance. I regret it very much; I wish I hadn't written them. I obtained Gülhan Ünlü's number from a panel search. I had sent orders to the complainant with cash on delivery. I sent orders 3 times within the same day. I was also the one who made the false reports to 112. I acted out of ignorance and wanted to cause disturbance. It was a wrong way of thinking. I introduced myself to the other party as Muhammet Hüseyin Yıldırım; I wrote a random name and surname. I received reactions from other inmates in prison and from my family; I am very regretful. I request my release and acquittal. I did not perform these actions under instructions from anyone; I did them on my own. I have no connection with the Daltons or any other criminal organizations," he said.

The prosecutor requested that the defendant be sentenced to a total of 5 years and 3 months to 19 years and 3 months in prison for the crimes of 'attempted robbery at night' and 'disturbing the peace and tranquility of individuals,' as well as for obtaining personal data in a chain manner.

Taking into account the current state of evidence and the defendant's detention status, the court panel ruled that Kazıcı should remain in prison and adjourned the next hearing to Wednesday, May 13.
