Ümit Özdağ, detained in Silivri, issues press statement: The ruling bloc now views everyone who does not offer unconditional obedience as an enemy.

Zafer Party Chairman Prof. Dr. Ümit Özdağ, who was detained while dining at a restaurant and remains in custody at Silivri Prison, has issued a press statement. 

Directing harsh criticism at the government, Özdağ stated that the concept of law has now completely disappeared. 

Here is the full text of Özdağ's press statement 

Our country is experiencing a very severe political, economic, security, and legal crisis, and this crisis is deepening. The solution the People's Alliance has found, not to overcome the crisis but to manage it, is the 'Belarusification' of Turkey's political system.

This means the transformation of the authoritarian presidential regime into a totalitarian one.

To this end, the People's Alliance has effectively suspended the Constitution by refusing to implement Constitutional Court rulings and European Court of Human Rights decisions, which the Constitution accepts as part of domestic law.

The People's Alliance, through specially selected prosecutor's offices and courts, is violating the legal and constitutional rights of the opposition and is applying existing legal legislation differently to government supporters than to members of the opposition.

Politics, opposition political parties, and the press are being shaped by the 'enemy criminal law' applied to the opposition. In such an environment, speaking of an 'Independent Judiciary,' let alone demanding an independent judiciary, or saying 'I trust that justice will be served' is meaningless.

Correctly identifying the situation also forms the basis for waging a correct political and legal struggle.

The environment of deep crisis into which Turkey is being dragged—a crisis further aggravated by the State Audit Board (DDK), the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF), and Cybersecurity Laws, and which could open a path leading to the disappearance of the security of life and property—has caused TÜSİAD, the most important organization of the private sector, to criticize the situation with a statement that was essentially mild, after watching what was happening in silence and ineffectively for a long time. However, the reaction of the People's Alliance to this mild criticism has once again clearly shown that the model they desire is Belarus.

It is tragicomic that, under the direction of the People's Alliance, an investigation was launched into TÜSİAD following its statement on the grounds of 'attempting to influence judicial bodies.'

When the Constitutional Court makes a decision regarding the violation of individual rights, those who react to the Constitutional Court and its members in ways that far exceed the limits of political criticism, and even suggest the closure of the court—is that not putting pressure on the judiciary or influencing a fair trial, but TÜSİAD's statements are an attempt to influence a fair trial?
