According to a report by the BBC, a Macallan 1926 single malt was sold at Sotheby’s Auction House in London for more than double its estimated price.
The auction house's head of whisky, Jonny Fowle, said he was allowed to taste a 'tiny drop' before the sale.
Fowle said, "It's very rich, it's got so much dried fruit, so much spice, so much wood," as one would expect.
The Macallan 1926 single malt, which was matured in dark oak casks for 60 years, was bottled in 1986. Only 40 bottles were produced...
One of the bottles was sold for 1.5 million pounds in 2019. That was the most expensive spirit sold up until that time.
The identities of the buyers of the bottles in both auctions were not disclosed.
