WHAT IS AN FMF ATTACK?

FMF disease is characterized by recurrent attacks that can last 3-4 days, accompanied by fever, abdominal pain due to inflammation of the peritoneum, chest pain and a stabbing sensation (pleurisy-inflammation of the lung lining), and joint pain and swelling (arthritis-joint inflammation).

Sometimes, redness on the skin of the front of the legs can also be added to the clinical picture.

Usually, these complaints can resolve on their own within 3-4 days even without any treatment. Recurrent attacks cause the accumulation of a protein called amyloid in our bodies over time.

Amyloid most frequently accumulates in the kidneys and can lead to chronic kidney failure. Less frequently, it can accumulate in the vessel walls and lead to vasculitis.
