Television producer Acun Ilıcalı was a guest on Cüneyt Özdemir’s YouTube channel. Preparing to return to screens with Survivor All Star 2024, Ilıcalı revealed the cost of Survivor for the first time.
Responding to the question, "Isn't it a bit much for these people to compete while hungry and miserable for six months?", Ilıcalı said the following:
"We are filming the most difficult Survivor in the world. The duration might seem long, but Survivor is actually a sports show. Think of it like a football season. Just as a football season lasts nine months, Survivor lasts six months. We can say we have created our own sport. There is no such Survivor implementation in the world. The contestants have to earn even their food, apart from their weekly rations."
'THE COST IS 12-13 MILLION DOLLARS'
Touching upon the cost of Survivor, Ilıcalı stated, "In terms of television broadcasting, six months seems like a long time, but we can call this a bit of Turkey's television system. Series are normally 45-60 minutes, while ours are 130 minutes. The real reason is that the cost of one season of Survivor is 12-13 million dollars. There is a staggering cost involved," he said.
