Artist Şakir Öner Günhan has passed away
Master voice of Turkish folk music, Şakir Öner Günhan (82), has passed away at the hospital where he was receiving treatment in Bodrum.

The cause of death for Şakir Öner Günhan, who had been living in Bodrum for many years, has not been disclosed.
Günhan's funeral will be held tomorrow (Sunday) following the noon prayer at the Bitez Gülsevim Rüştü Kaynak Mosque, after which he will be laid to rest at the Bitez Cemetery.
WHO IS ŞAKİR ÖNER GÜNHAN?
Born in 1942 in the Mudanya district of Bursa, Şakir Öner Günhan was the son of a civil servant and had to complete his primary and secondary education in many different parts of Anatolia.
Günhan completed his high school education in Ankara and graduated with success from the Ankara Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences, the Gazi Education Institute Physical Education Department, and the Ankara State Conservatory Opera Department.
Günhan joined TRT in 1966 as a Turkish Folk Music vocal artist. He worked as a producer at TRT starting in 1973. Later, he served as a presenter, director, and producer for many television programs, most notably "Yörelerimiz Türkiye" (Our Regions Turkey), "Ankara Rüzgarı" (Ankara Wind), and "Türkülerin Hikayesi" (The Story of Folk Songs).
He was married to Nursaç Öner Günhan, who is well-known in the Turkish music world and also worked as an artist at TRT.
Born in 1942, Günhan learned that he had colon cancer during a routine check-up in 2020. It was decided that Günhan, who began chemotherapy to bring the tumor under control, would undergo surgery after completing his chemotherapy treatment.
Undergoing treatment, Günhan defeated cancer 3 times. Married and a father of one, Şakir Öner Günhan, who was diagnosed with cancer for the 4th time, was admitted to the intensive care unit at Acıbadem Bodrum Hospital 5 days ago.
