Artist Şakir Öner Günhan laid to rest

Turkish folk music artist Şakir Öner Günhan, who passed away at the age of 82 in the hospital where he was receiving treatment in Bodrum, has been laid to rest amidst tears.

Turkish folk music artist Şakir Öner Günhan learned that he had colon cancer during a routine check-up in 2020.

The artist began receiving chemotherapy treatment to bring the tumor under control. Following the completion of the chemotherapy, it was decided that Günhan would undergo surgery.

THE DISEASE RECURRED THREE TIMES

Although Günhan regained his health after the surgery, the disease later recurred three times. Günhan, who was married and a father of one, passed away on April 13 at a private hospital in Bodrum, where he had been taken five days earlier after his condition worsened.

LOVED ONES FLOCKED TO THE FUNERAL

A funeral ceremony was held yesterday at noon for Turkish folk music artist Şakir Öner Günhan at the Bitez Gülsevim Rüştü Kaynak Mosque. The ceremony was attended by Bodrum District Governor Mustafa Çit, Günhan's son Ozan Günhan, his family, fellow artists, and many of his loved ones.

Following the funeral prayer, blessings were requested for Günhan. His coffin was then carried on shoulders for a while before being taken to the Bitez Cemetery.

Günhan's body was laid to rest there amidst the tears of his loved ones.
