Following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor and presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, thousands of young people took to the streets to protest the decision. Some young people were taken into custody during the demonstrations. Famous figures also began posting messages on social media to support the youth. One of the artists who offered support was Nebahat Çehre.

In a statement on her social media account, Çehre emphasized that the young people should be released as soon as possible and expressed her commitment to democracy.

The veteran actress used the following expressions in her post:

"Get my children out of there! In my heart and soul, I am finding it difficult to endure and understand. Our beautiful children, who have so much hope, enthusiasm, love, and passion, are inside, and their mothers and fathers are in mourning. There is no 'you, me, or him' in this country... There is a huge 'US'. Even if our color sometimes turns to gray, we are the Turkish nation; we have always lit bonfires in front of the red and white, and we will do so again.

I wish that as an artist, we were talking more about art than politics; unfortunately, it is difficult, but my belief is always there and will always be there. I am a woman of the Republic. Like all of you, I will stand by democracy, rights, and freedom until the last drop of my blood. Hoping to meet in beautiful tomorrows where the common sense and empathy we feel for one another will not leave our hearts and minds. My heart is with you, my beautiful children."
