Carl Weathers, known for his role as Apollo Creed, has passed away

Carl Weathers, who played the role of Apollo Creed in the first four films of the boxing movie series Rocky, starring Sylvester Stallone, has passed away at the age of 76. 

In a statement released by Carl Weathers' family, it was stated: "We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers. He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1, 2024.

Carl lived an extraordinary life, he was an exceptional human being.

Through his contributions to film, television, the arts, and sports, he left an indelible mark and was recognized worldwide across generations.

He was a much-loved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend," the statement read.

WHO IS CARL WEATHERS?

Carl Weathers was an actor, director, and former professional football player known in the American film and television world.

Born on January 14, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, Weathers gained fame particularly for the "Rocky" film series, in which he portrayed the character of Apollo Creed. 

THE APOLLO CREED CHARACTER

Apollo Creed is one of the iconic characters of the "Rocky" film series and was portrayed by Carl Weathers. Apollo Creed was introduced in the series as a boxing champion and played an important role as both a rival and a friend to Rocky Balboa (portrayed by Sylvester Stallone).
