While the World Economic Forum places Turkey on a red list regarding violence against women, OECD figures rank Turkey first in violence against women.
As Turkey is shaken daily by news of femicides and violence against women, the cycle of violence has also spilled over into the world of celebrities.
Most recently, actor and singer Fırat Tanış made headlines due to allegations of psychological violence against his former partner İklim Tamkan.
Some famous figures who have previously committed violence against the women they were with have been reported in the media as follows:
İBRAHİM TATLISES
Singer İbrahim Tatlıses frequently subjected his pregnant wife, Perihan Savaş, to violence.
Tatlıses had even used the expression, "I could have killed her," regarding Savaş. Tatlıses had also used certain derogatory remarks toward women.
YILMAZ GÜNEY
Artist Yılmaz Güney frequently subjected his wife, Nebahat Çehre, to violence.
It is known that Güney even forced Çehre to place a glass on her head and fired a gun at it, and that he also once ran her over with a car in a fit of rage.
MÜSLÜM GÜRSES
Singer Müslüm Gürses, on the other hand, would lose control after drinking alcohol, having broken his wife Muhterem Nur's ribs and dragged her by her hair.
