Cold wave intensifies in Turkey: Yellow alert issued for 17 provinces!

According to the latest assessments by the Meteorological Service, precipitation is expected in the eastern Marmara region, eastern Central Anatolia, the Black Sea region, Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia, as well as the surroundings of Hatay and Kütahya, the eastern parts of Kahramanmaraş and Osmaniye, and the western parts of Eskişehir.

Heavy snowfall is forecast for the coastal areas of Istanbul, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Yalova, Bursa, Zonguldak, Bartın, Düzce, and Kastamonu.

While rain is expected in Hatay and the southern parts of Southeastern Anatolia, sleet and snow will be effective in other regions.

Heavy snowfall may be seen in the western parts of Eastern Anatolia and the interior parts of the Eastern Black Sea region.

SNOWFALL CONTINUES IN ISTANBUL

The snowfall, which began to take effect in Istanbul yesterday afternoon, has turned some areas in the higher elevations white. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) announced that the snowfall will continue intermittently until Friday morning.

Some flights at Sabiha Gökçen Airport have been canceled due to adverse weather conditions. İSKİ has sent SMS warnings to Istanbul residents regarding the risk of frozen water pipes as temperatures drop.

STORM EXPECTED!

According to the Meteorological Service's statement, a storm is expected in the Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean, and the southern and eastern parts of Central Anatolia. The wind is expected to blow at speeds of 50-60 km/h, potentially reaching 90 km/h in some areas.

Citizens are advised to be cautious against negative consequences such as roof damage, fallen trees, and transportation disruptions.

AIR TEMPERATURES WILL DROP RAPIDLY

The Meteorological Service announced that air temperatures will decrease by 4 to 10 degrees due to northerly winds. A noticeably cold weather will be experienced, especially in the Marmara, Black Sea, Central Anatolia, and Eastern Anatolia regions.

DANGER OF AVALANCHE, ICING, AND FROST

There is a risk of avalanches in the interior parts of the Eastern Black Sea region and on the high and sloping terrain of Eastern Anatolia.

Icing and frost events may occur in the interior and eastern regions.

Mist and fog are expected during the morning and night hours.

Drivers are advised to take precautions against icing on the roads, use winter tires, and reduce their speed.

YELLOW ALERT FOR 17 PROVINCES FROM THE METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE

The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a yellow alert for 17 provinces due to heavy snowfall and storms.

Provinces under yellow alert:

Adana, Antalya, Bursa, Hakkari, Hatay, Mersin, Kastamonu, Kocaeli, Kahramanmaraş, Sakarya, Sinop, Zonguldak, Şırnak, Bartın, Yalova, Osmaniye, Düzce.

Citizens are advised to heed the warnings of the authorities and be prepared for possible negative developments.

HEAVY SNOW AND STORM WARNING

Very cloudy weather will prevail across the Marmara region. While snowfall is expected in Istanbul, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Yalova, and Bursa, heavy snowfall may be seen, especially in higher elevations.

Icing and frost may occur in Thrace.

The wind is expected to blow strongly from the north, occasionally reaching storm force (40-70 km/h).

Temperatures will drop to 5°C in Istanbul and 3°C in Sakarya.

WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE IN THE AEGEAN?

While snowfall is expected in Kütahya and its surroundings in the Aegean region, very cloudy weather will prevail in other provinces.

In the Northern Aegean, the wind will blow at speeds of 50-80 km/h.

Icing and frost will be seen in the interior parts during the night and morning hours.

Sleet and snowfall are expected in Kütahya and Afyonkarahisar.

WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN?

Intermittent precipitation is expected in the eastern parts of Hatay, Osmaniye, and Kahramanmaraş, while precipitation in the interior parts will be in the form of sleet and snow.

There is a danger of icing and frost in the Taurus Mountains and the Lakes Region.

The wind is expected to blow as a storm (50-90 km/h) from the north in the interior parts.

TEMPERATURES DROPPING IN CENTRAL ANATOLIA

Intermittent snowfall will be effective in the eastern part of the region. Especially in Sivas, temperatures will drop to -4°C, while very cloudy weather is expected in Eskişehir and Konya.

Icing and frost will be severe in the region.

The wind is expected to blow as a storm in the southern parts (50-80 km/h).

WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE IN THE BLACK SEA?

Heavy snowfall is expected in the coastal parts of Zonguldak, Bartın, Düzce, and Kastamonu in the Western Black Sea region. In the Central and Eastern Black Sea regions, precipitation will be in the form of rain and sleet on the coast, and snow in the interior parts.

There is an avalanche danger in the interior parts of the Eastern Black Sea region.

Icing and frost are expected during the morning and night hours.

The wind will blow strongly from the north and northeast in the Western Black Sea, and from the west and northwest in the Eastern Black Sea.

SNOWFALL WILL INTENSIFY IN EASTERN ANATOLIA

Snowfall is expected throughout Eastern Anatolia. Heavy snowfall will be seen in the eastern parts of Hakkari and Şırnak.

Fog and mist may form across the region in the morning hours.

The danger of avalanches continues on steep and sloping terrain.

PRECIPITATION EXPECTED IN SOUTHEASTERN ANATOLIA

Partly to very cloudy weather will be effective in the region. While rain is expected in Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, Siirt, and Şanlıurfa, sleet may be seen in higher elevations.

Mist and fog may be effective in the morning hours.

STORM WARNING FOR THE SEAS

The Meteorological Service announced that a storm is expected in the Mediterranean, Aegean, Marmara, and Black Sea.

The wind is estimated to blow at force 9 (75-90 km/h) in the Mediterranean.

Storm-force winds will be seen in the Black Sea, Marmara, and Aegean.

Seafarers and fishermen should be cautious against adverse weather conditions.
