The couple, who were the subject of news reports just the other day regarding their children not wanting to ride in a Ferrari, made headlines again today with reports that "Engin Polat bought his wife Dilan Polat a plane."

While the couple's post quickly became a hot topic on social media, it also brought backlash with it.

Many social media users began questioning the source of the money, pointing to the prices of private planes and jets. When well-known figures and journalists joined in on this topic, which quickly dominated the agenda, the Polat family announced that they had rented the plane.

Making a statement on the matter, Engin Polat announced in a video he filmed by the pool of a crowded business that they did not buy the plane, but only rented it.

Following the plane claims, Dilan Polat also made a statement on her social media account. Stating that they only rented the plane but that they 'could buy it if they wanted to,' Polat said, "Our money has once again tired the jaws of the destitute."

Journalist Cüneyt Özdemir reacted harshly to this post by Polat.

I don't know what to call it (as I am seeing it for the first time) when you belittle the people who react to this while half the country is condemned to the minimum wage and spit in their faces. I have known many people with millions and billions, but I am witnessing this level for the first time. Wealth is not about earning money, it is about knowing how to spend it!

One last reminder, you earned this money thanks to the people you call 'destitute' today and whose faces you spat on; I hope you don't witness the opposite one day!"
