Defne Samyeli's statement on Rafah: 'Saying children shouldn't die is very superficial'

Israel's attack on a tent city in Rafah is drawing reactions from all over the world.

Following the attack, the "All Eyes On Rafah" template, used to draw attention to Rafah where 1.4 million displaced Palestinians have taken refuge, has been shared more than 37 million times on Instagram.

Many celebrities from Turkey have also not remained silent about this massacre.

However, the remarks made by Defne Samyeli, who attended an event the other evening, drew backlash.

Defne Samyeli responded to reporters' question, "A massacre took place in Rafah, what do you think about this?" as follows:

"I think that both this question and all the answers given to this question are playing to the gallery. This is an issue that has been going on for decades and has very different dynamics underneath it. I think that saying who is right or wrong regarding the parties, or saying two lines like 'children shouldn't die, tears should stop, there shouldn't be war, there should be peace' when you extend the microphone, is extremely superficial and intended to save the day."

"Of course, the slaughter of people in the world is not something anyone can watch with peace of mind. As long as the system in this world is like this, as long as we have our soldiers, our armies, and our weapons, thinking that there will be peace is also an extremely naive approach. We could talk about this issue until morning, play to the gallery, and ease our conscience. I don't think that way."

Defne Samyeli quickly became a trending topic on social media due to her remarks.
