Demet Akalın criticizes green passport proposal

A new legislative proposal submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey aims to grant green passports to engineers and architects who have completed 15 years in their profession and are currently in active service.
The justification for the proposal states that engineers and architects frequently face visa obstacles when attending international meetings, trade fairs, and projects, noting that this situation hinders their personal professional activities and negatively impacts Turkey's international technical and scientific representation.
DEMAND FOR GREEN PASSPORTS FOR ARTISTS
Following the submission of the proposal to Parliament, singer Demet Akalın reacted to the news. In a post on her Instagram account regarding the matter, Akalın criticized the move, stating, "We artists are celebrating our 30th year, and we lead in all social responsibility projects. Why can't we receive green passports?"
REGULATION UNDER REVIEW IN COMMITTEE
The proposal, which was submitted to the Speaker of the Parliament on October 13, 2025, and is still being discussed in committee, aims to facilitate the professional activities of architects and engineers. If accepted, this regulation will enable engineers and architects who are registered with chambers affiliated with the TMMOB and are actively practicing their profession to obtain special-stamped passports.
