Metin Aslan, the lawyer of detained comedian Deniz Göktaş, announced that his client is in good health and will be referred to the İstanbul Çağlayan Courthouse on Friday, 3 July.

In a written statement, Aslan noted that on 29 June 2026 the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into Deniz Göktaş under Article 299 of the Turkish Penal Code, which covers "insulting the President," and Article 216/3, which covers "publicly degrading the religious values adopted by a section of the public."

Aslan stated that Göktaş, who returned to Turkey after learning of the investigation, was taken into custody at İstanbul Airport, and that following a health check he was taken to the İstanbul Police Headquarters Vatan Campus, where his statement was taken in the presence of his lawyer.

Aslan said: "My client is in good health. He will be referred to the İstanbul Çağlayan Courthouse on Friday, 3 July, and will appear before the judge at 10:30."
