In a post on her social media account, Ulu stated, "I have always trusted the humor of this country. I have actually trusted the intelligence of both those who create humor and those who receive and accept it. Therefore, I may have gotten too carried away and made a joke that exceeded its purpose. I apologize with all my heart to everyone I may have offended, hurt, and upset, even if unintentionally."

"I have always trusted the humor of this country. I have actually trusted the intelligence of both those who create humor and those who receive and accept it. Therefore, I may have gotten too carried away and made a joke that exceeded its purpose. Sometimes it is necessary to stretch and exaggerate certain boundaries for satire, and the balance can be lost for some. A joke that seems perfectly normal to one person can touch too deeply on the values of another. I only want to touch everyone to make them laugh. I had no intention of upsetting, angering, or disturbing anyone. Humor actually exists to compensate for flawed things. Please accept this as a flaw as well.

As someone who has always taken care to be respectful of everyone's differences, beliefs, sacred values, and our shared values throughout my life, I am very sorry for this recent situation. I apologize with all my heart to everyone I may have offended, hurt, and upset, even if unintentionally."
