Draft law on stray animals on the agenda of the art community: 'Do not euthanize stray animals'

Many reports have appeared in the media stating that the AKP has prepared a proposal to solve the problems regarding stray dogs and that it will be presented to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) on Thursday.

These reports stated that all dogs would be collected, kept in shelters for 30 days, and that an adoption notice would be issued during this period.

Famous names also expressed their reactions on their social media accounts.

Ajda Pekkan: Animal lovers are not just people who have animal pages on Facebook and Instagram as you think. If you are acting based on the words of people who run 15 fake accounts and spend all day showing hostility toward stray animals, you are making a mistake. Millions of conscientious and compassionate people in this country, whom you have never faced before, will never allow this, no matter the outcome; and one does not need to be an animal lover to defend this, being conscientious is enough.

Tarkan: We sometimes experience sad incidents where we are harmed by stray animals. However, we must call a spade a spade. The subject of this problem is not the animals, but the state, which is supposed to protect the safety of both us and our animal friends. The state is not fully utilizing its regulatory powers and authority in this matter, effectively pitting two victims against each other. The bill for this bitter prescription, created due to negligence, cannot be paid by our animal friends.

Ceyda Düvenci: The death warrant must be withdrawn.

Gizem Karaca: If this law is approved, I can fit 50 dogs in my garden. They shouldn't bother coming to my street.
